After searching your computer for genealogy files, GENViewer displays them in a convenient list. You are able to filter this list to find the file that you are looking for.
There are options that will sort the file list based on file name, file type, file size and modify date.
To the left side of the main screen, all of the individuals in your genealogy file are displayed for you to view and select. individuals' gender (blue for males and red for females) and birth year.

Header Information: Displays information about the genealogy file such as source, date created, character set. Each file format has different header information.
Submitter: This is the individual that created the genealogy file.
File Information: Displays information about the file size, date and number of individuals, families, notes and sources.
The individual tab details all of the details/events of an individual. Notes and sources are displayed - simply select an event.
If an event has a date associated with it, the individual's age is displayed.
Any individual in an event can be clicked on to bring you to that individual's details.
Family view displays all individuals in a family along with parents of the father and mother. Children are shown along with their spouse.
Based on the selected individual in the People List, 5 or 6 generations are shown in this tab.
You can select anyone in the pedigree by double clicking on them with the mouse.
Descendants tab displays ll of the descendants of an individual. GENViewer allows you to select what information to show with each descendant.
Although the people list displays all of the individuals in your genealogy file, the List tab displays much more details.
You can create different "views" in this tab. For Example: you can create a view that is used for vital events. Or one for researching census records.
It is very common to have multiple family tree in one genealogy file. The trees tab allows you to see each family tree and see the individuals in those trees.
When viewing GEDCOM files, the trees tab will display an "export" button. This button allows you to create individual GEDCOM files for each family tree.
GENViewer allows you to highlight individuals. All highlighted individuals are displayed in the Filters tab as well in other views.

Selecting the "Search" button in the toolbar will display this dialog box. From here, you can search of individuals.
